Student feedback from the 2016 course

The 2016 students were asked to write a little on What Went Well and Even Better If. These are the transcriptions of their answers - and what we are going to change for 2017 as a result.

What went well

• The content was educational and new, what helped that were the experts speaking about their field.
• The pace was superb, not too fast, not too slow.
• Fun and engaging
• I liked the variety of topics
• Meeting experts
• Flexible schedule / activities
• Free lunch
• Everyone felt included in all sessions and activities
• The combination of the types of sessions in the schedules
• Everyone that spoke to us was very passionate about their topic and encouraged us to want to learn
• We were provided with everyday life skills
• We were given the chance to practice presentation skills
• I really liked the fact that so many different speakers came in – it game me many new perspectives on topics that mean a lot to our future
• The people 
• Everyone felt comfortable and included in the discussions
• Practicing our public speaking skills
• Leadership skills
• The diversity of the group.
• IT WAS AN ABSOLUTELY AMAZING WEEK
• Presentation skills very useful and increase in confidence in public speaking.
• The pace and what was covered – food and water security etc.
• Issues map
• Tour of ECI
• The variety of people and speakers that taught and took our knowledge even further.
• The skills of identifying and solving problems were taught with profession and much entertaining.
• Teaching leadership was focussed and went really good.
• Interesting info that is crucial for every major in uni
• It was nice seeing the different directors and influential people in the ECI and learning from them.
• Concise and well prepared schedule.
• The information I received
• The experience
• To know how to save the environment
• The speakers
• Education in out of itself (like the course)
• Staff
• I really had a great time and the course was excellent!

Even better if

• I think more debate between students would have been eye opening.
• More debating
• A bit more focus on public speaking (ex. Confidence, speed, etc.)
• It was perfect! Thank you!
• Maybe going more in depth in some less known findings / problems
• If possible a small presentations from the speakers we hear from in the Q&A session to know what they would want us to know as well as what we want to know from them.
• Learn about careers about the topics we learn about.
• I would like to see the course in the future but more in depth while also lasting longer
• Would be a bit more personal and focus on developing the student on single
• Relate climate change and others to important majors and jobs.
• To meet even more people (professors, journalism, business women and men and anyone who works in something related to the environment.
• Time designated to researching
• More time (10 days?)
• I could do it again!

So for 2017 - more debating and a bit more speaking practice, and some more clear links between the issues and how they will be relevant to different careers. We might try and cram in a couple more visitors but there are only so many hours in a week!
